Officer Duties and Descriptions: VICE PRESIDENT for PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

I. Bylaws Duties
The Vice President for Professional Development shall be responsible for developing and promoting professional development opportunities across the region outside of the annual conference; and, as appropriate, for working with the annual conference Program Committee Chair to suggest potential speakers and session presenters, and for the new member orientation session at the annual conference. The Vice President for Professional Development chairs the PACRAO Review Editorial Board.

II. Specific Duties

  1. Chair the PACRAO Review Editorial Board
    1. Solicit editorial board members during new member orientation at the annual conference, during the conference, and via other Association communications throughout the year.
    2. Encourage participation of members who represent the geographic and ethnic diversity of the Association.
    3. Maintain a current list of editorial board members.
    4. Meet with the editorial board at the annual meeting.
    5. Conduct discussions among members electronically throughout the year as needed to promote the editorial board's agenda. Assign editorial duties to committee members.
    6. Edit the PACRAO Review journal and maintain the PACRAO Review website.
  2. Oversee First-time Attendee Orientation (with DDA and VP for Membership)
    1. Develop agenda for first-time attendee orientation at the upcoming annual conference in coordination with the Diversity Development Advocate and the VP for Membership.
    2. Coordinate with the Local Arrangements and Program Chairs to ensure a time and room is reserved.
    3. Develop handouts and activities for the session.
  3. Oversee PACRAO Pal Mentor Program (with DDA)
    1. Develop plan for the PACRAO Pal mentor program at the upcoming annual conference in coordination with the Diversity Development Advocate.
    2. Coordinate with the Local Arrangements Committee and Program Committee Chairs to ensure mentors and mentees can sign up through registration and that space is reserved if desired.
    3. Develop handouts and activities for mentors and mentees.
    4. Match mentors to mentees. Communicate assignments to all participants.
  4. Administer Professional Development and Travel Grants
    1. Gain approval of the Executive Board for grant funds and priorities.
    2. Publicize grant opportunities and deadlines to the membership via the list serve and newsletter.
    3. Post applications on the PACRAO web site.
    4. Review applications and recommend recipients to the Executive Board for approval.
    5. Notify award winners and make announcements via the newsletter and at the annual conference.
    6. Work with the Treasurer to assure proper disbursement of funds to award recipients.
  5. Provide Additional Professional Development Opportunities for Membership
    1. Set up, organize and host webinars or seminars for topics of interest with the membership.
    2. Recommend readings or other associated activities that may provide professional development opportunities to the membership.
    3. Stay current on industry trends and development topics to provide feedback to other members of the PACRAO board or committees.
    4. Socialize professional development opportunities to membership through social media and other electronic avenues.
  6. Conference Responsibilities
    1. Work with the annual conference Program Committee Chair to suggest potential speakers and session presenters.
    2. Coordinate the first-time attendee orientation session.
    3. Meet with the PACRAO Review Editorial Board.
    4. Prepare and present a brief report during the Annual Business Meeting that includes an update on professional development activities, including the awarding of PACRAO grants.
  7. Executive Board Responsibilities
    1. Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board.
    2. Participate in all Executive Board meetings, in person and via telephone.
    3. Contribute newsletter articles to the PACRAO quarterly newsletters.
    4. Write and submit three reports (one for Winter Executive Board Meeting, one for Summer Executive Board Meeting, one year-end report for the Executive Board Meeting prior to the Annual Conference).

III. Required and Optional Meetings:

  1. Annual Conference while assuming Vice President for Professional Development position (paid by your institution)
    1. Saturday afternoon-Sunday morning Executive Board Meeting prior to conference
    2. Sunday afternoon First-Time Attendee Session
    3. Sunday evening Opening Session
    4. Wednesday morning Annual Business Meeting
    5. Wednesday afternoon Executive Board Meeting following conference
  2. Winter Executive Board Meeting of first year (paid by PACRAO)
    1. Late January/early February at upcoming conference location, usually Friday-Sunday
  3. AACRAO Annual Meeting (optional, paid by your institution)
    1. State and Regional Officers' Meeting (free pre-conference workshop)
    2. PACRAO Executive Board Meeting for those attending AACRAO if arranged by PACRAO President
  4. Summer Executive Board Meeting of first year (paid by PACRAO)
    1. Late June to early August at conference location 18 months out, usually Friday-Sunday
  5. Annual Conference at end of first year (paid by your institution)
    1. Saturday-Sunday morning Executive Board Meeting prior to conference
