VP of Diversity Development

Officer Duties and Descriptions: VICE PRESIDENT OF DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT

I. Bylaw Duties
The Vice President for Diversity Development is responsible for promoting and advocating for matters related to diversity, equity and inclusion within PACRAO. The VP for Diversity Development serves on the Program Committee and ensures that there are diversity sessions across the conference program while developing such sessions with the help of the Diversity Development Committee.

The VP for Diversity Development chairs the Diversity Development Committee. This committee is charged with keeping the Association engaged with issues and activities relevant to equity, diversity, and inclusion. It meets during the annual conference and is open to any interested member of the Association willing to commit time and energy to achieving committee goals during the year.

II. Specific Duties*

  1. Chair Diversity Development Committee
    1. Select a committee. Solicit volunteers through the list serve or newsletter and other appropriate means to encourage broad representation on the committee.
    2. Convene regular electronic or in-person meetings of the committee.
    3. Develop special activities such as workshops, special topics sessions and association events promoting diversity.
    4. Report to the Executive Board the projected budget for the year and manage the funds allotted.
  2. Promote Sensitivity and Commitment to Diversity in PACRAO
    1. Submit articles regarding diversity development to the President for inclusion in the association newsletter.
    2. Assist the Vice President for Professional Development in promoting professional development.
  3. Conference Responsibilities
    1. Plan the program for the Diversity Development Luncheon: select keynote speaker; work with the local arrangements committee to schedule the food, room and any audio-visual equipment; advertise the event through PACRAO channels (e.g., newsletter, website, conference program, flyers).
    2. With the Diversity Development Committee and Program Committee, plan diversity sessions and coordinate logistics with the Local Arrangements Committee.
    3. Assist the Vice President for Professional Development with the preparation and coordination of the first-time attendee orientation and PACRAO Pals mentor program.
    4. Convene a meeting of the Diversity Development Committee.
    5. Prepare and present a brief report during the Diversity Development Luncheon on the activities of the committee.
  4. Executive Board Responsibilities
    1. Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board.
    2. Participate in all Executive Board meetings, in person and via telephone.
    3. Contribute newsletter articles to the PACRAO quarterly newsletters.
    4. Write and submit three reports (one for Winter Executive Board Meeting, one for Summer Executive Board Meeting, one year-end report for the Executive Board Meeting prior to the Annual Conference).

III. Required and Optional Meetings:

  1. Annual Conference while assuming Vice President for Diversity Development position (paid by your institution)
    1. Saturday afternoon-Sunday morning Executive Board Meeting prior to conference
    2. Sunday afternoon First-Time Attendee Session
    3. Sunday evening Opening Session
    4. Wednesday morning Annual Business Meeting
    5. Wednesday afternoon Executive Board Meeting following conference
  2. Winter Executive Board Meeting (paid by PACRAO)
    1. Late January/early February at upcoming conference location, usually Friday-Sunday
  3. AACRAO Annual Meeting (optional, paid by your institution)
    1. State and Regional Officers' Meeting (free pre-conference workshop)
    2. PACRAO Executive Board Meeting for those attending AACRAO if arranged by PACRAO President
  4. Summer Executive Board Meeting (paid by PACRAO)
    1. Late June to early August at conference location 18 months out, usually Friday-Sunday
  5. Annual Conference at end of term (paid by your institution)
    1. Saturday-Sunday morning Executive Board Meeting prior to conference
    2. Sunday afternoon First-Time Attendee Session
    3. Sunday evening Opening Session
    4. Wednesday morning Annual Business Meeting
