Soraira Urquiza Biography

Dr. Soraira Urquiza is the daughter of (formerly) undocumented immigrants from Nayarit, Mexico. She is a first-generation college graduate and professional. In addition to her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, she earned a Master's degree in Chicana/o Studies from CSU Northridge and a Bachelor's in Psychology from Mount St Mary's University. 

 

Dr. Urquiza is an Assistant Professor of Chicana/o/x Studies at Los Angeles City College. She is very passionate about higher education as an administrator and faculty. Before her faculty role, she worked in the registrar's office for sixteen years. She served as Chair of the Latinx Caucus for the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). In 2022, she was the first Latina President of the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (PACRAO). Her other passion is baseball history; on weekends, she can be found at her "hobby job," giving tours of Dodger Stadium.
