Julia has participated in PACRAO for more than 20 years. She has served as a facilitator, a presenter, a member of the Program Committee, and as a member of the Nominations and Elections Committee. With the good support of colleagues, she held previous PACRAO leadership positions as Program Committee Chair and Vice President for Professional Development.
Julia has enjoyed a 25-year career in student services, starting in admissions and spending the last 22 years working in the records and registration area. Currently, Julia works as the University Registrar at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, a role that she has held since 2003. Previously, she worked as an Assistant Registrar at WSU for nine years. In between, Julia served as the University Registrar at Pacific Lutheran University, in Tacoma, Washington, where she had started her student service career as an Admissions Counselor.
In addition to her connections with PACRAO, Julia has been active in AACRAO. Julia served as the Co-Chair for Volunteers for the AACRAO 2011 conference in Seattle. Ten years before, Julia participated on the Local Arrangements Committee for the 2010 AACRAO conference in Seattle. Julia was a member and then chair of the AACRAO Mentor Committee. She has facilitated and presented sessions for AACRAO as well.
When Julia submits proposal for professional development presentations, her favorite topics are leadership, communication, teamwork, and gratitude. Now in the midst of a student information system implementation, she is gaining a lot of experience (and some wisdom) for future presentations on technology, change management, and the motivational importance of freely and frequently giving away cheap, plastic prizes, edible treats, and encouraging words.
Julia's bachelor's degree in English and psychology is from Pacific Lutheran University, in Tacoma, Washington, and her master's degree in English is from The Ohio State University.
